Paris: Oh, My Camera, I Love It So...
As I've mentioned a time or two, I bought a new Olympus camera before going to Paris. I'm still getting used to it, and familiarizing myself with its many useful settings (though I'm not always successful at using them usefully). One thing on the camera I absolutely love is the 5x zoom setting.
A demonstration:
Photo One from the Champs Elysee
This is a picture taken of a lovely little beaux arts building in the gardens at the beginning of the Champs Elysee. I took this from the foot paths, probably 150 or 200 feet away. Please note the cupid cupola topper and keep in mind that all of the following pictures are taken from the exact same spot.
Photo Two from the same spot
After using the first zoom setting, you can see some of the decorative detail on the cupola.
Photo Three -- still haven't moved anything but the zoom lens
Zooming in again, the buds on the trees come into focus.
Photo Four -- Incroyable!
In this last shot, the camera isn't even at the highest zoom setting, and you can see the little cupid's silhouette quite clearly. If it had been a sunnier day, you would have been able to catch all the details of his quiver and bow.
This is precisely the type of architectural detail that enchants me and the type of photo I love to take.
Man, I love this camera.
