Convention Report: Arisia 2007

An excellent Arisia weekend! Easy and fast trip up, no problems setting up the Art Show, and I sold one painting, a small piece of jewelry and two prints.

MaryAnn Johanson sold several of her Princess Bride books and our Party (The Bronx Babes' Travelling Creative Salon) went very well -- one of our best. Totally interesting people stopped by, including Laura Anne Gilman, the convention's Writer Guest of Honor.

Speaking of interesting people, I was delighted to have a moment's conversation with the Artist Guest of Honor, Marrus. I hadn't had the pleasure of seeing her work before, but it was beautifully executed, with unusual subject matter and brilliant colors. Marrus herself was as colorful and beautiful as her paintings, and a generous soul, who spoke on several panels with suggestions on how to make a living as an artist. She gave a wonderful question and answer session, well-attended by some of the artists from the Art Show, who basically wanted to do what Marrus does -- make a living at their Art. She answered their questions with remarkable tact, humor and knowledge. I hope I see her again at some other convention. Her work deserves to be more widely seen.

Among the many pleasures of the convention was that we got to spend some time with our friends, Michael Devney, Darcy Devney and Bob Kuhn, and Dan Kimmel.

We'll be back in Boston again in February for Boskone and once again will be entertaining discriminating and intellectually high-minded fans.
