Woodlawn Project #3: Houses
Some of the houses in Woodlawn are really quite lovely and seem to be in another time and place altogether:
House on 234th Street, north side of house
This house looks to me like it might have been orginally constructed in the 1860s and has an almost New Orleans Garden District atmosphere about it. There are those tall shuttered windows on the ground floor, and the wrought iron fence and gate surrounding it. It has a large yard (large for a NYC house at any rate) and there are concrete flower urns in the yard. Directly in front of the house is an old hitching post, with the wrought iron ring still attached.

The fact that there is only one other house on the block -- equally as old -- and then the low brick wall surrounding the Woodlawn Cemetery work yards, really gives the impression of being in another era.
