COMMENTS: A Quote from the Hebrew book, The Song of Songs, Which is Solomon's. This book, unique among all the books of both the Old and New Testament in that it is a love poem, fairly erotic and never once mentions God. It has been claimed as an allegory of the love between God and His people by the Jews and the love between God and His Church by the Christians. Scholarship has shown, however, it is more likely a poem -- passed through many cultures and filters and finally written down in the first or second century c.e. -- read as a part of a fertility or marriage ritual. Since it so beautifully evokes Spring, at the season of Passover it is read on the 8th day of the festival.
