Title: Erin's Green Shore
St. Patrick's week continues here with this painting:

Medium: Acrylics and inks on illustration board
STATUS: For Sale $50
COMMENTS: I always loved my mother's Irish records. She had them all: The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem, The Wolfe Tones, The Dubliners. And there were even older ones from her childhood: Carmel Quinn, Ruthie Morrissey, Connie Foley and the great McNulty Family. I loved these records, even though most of the songs were either American-Irish, or stage hall songs. I especially loved the McNultys with "Ma" playing the accordian, Peter singing and Eileen tap dancing. Yes, that's right -- she tapped danced on the record! I never could get over both my admiration and my giggles for this feat (or feet!) which no one could see.
This piece was inspired by one of my favorite McNulty songs: "Erin's Green Shore." The refrain went:
She resembled the goddess of freedom/ And green was the mantle she wore/ Bound 'round with the shamrocks and roses/ That grew along Erin's Green Shore
Obviously not a totally successful effort to combine the words and the picture... I may have to try this illustration again.
