Convention News: I-Con
This Saturday, MaryAnn Johanson and I will be heading for I-Con, a science fiction convention held at Stony Brook University each spring. MaryAnn has been attending this convention since she was a kid, and her brother, Ken, has been involved in some of the programming over the past few years. Usually we stay for the entire weekend, driving out on Friday afternoon, crashing at her parents' place in Pt. Jefferson, and driving home Sunday evening. This year, for various reasons, we're only going out for the Saturday. MaryAnn will be on a few panels and selling her book.
Unfortunately, one day is too short for me to participate in the Art Show as I did last year, despite Michael Apice's kind invitation. The set up and take down, and the paperwork, is too time consuming for a one day shot. However, Michael has come up with the brilliant idea of a slide show to display an example of an artist's work, with a resume and artist's statement. This is just too cool to pass up, especially as the slide show runs for all three days and most of the money goes to charity. So, thanks Michael Apice .
The painting I've chose to display is one of my more recent Carl Sagan pieces, done for the last Boskone. It's called "To Venture Up From The Pit of Bones."
