Ambitions 2007: Upcoming Art Shows and Projects

I don't generally make New Year's resolutions anymore -- having set myself up for depression caused by failure too many times -- but for 2007 I have decided to try to work at my current projects a little harder and hone my ambitions a bit more.

Last year, I took a baby-step away from the S/F convention art show route and entered two national competitions sponsored by F+W Publications -- one for watermedia only, and the other for any media. I entered three of my new transparent acrylic paintings of New Grange in the watermedia competition:

and for the all media, I entered the pastel of the Three Mothers.

I don't anticipate winning anything, but I do feel the need to stretch my artistic muscles a bit. The convention circuit has been fun and a good exercise for dealing with market competition but I don't want to stick myself in a rut or a niche. I'd also like to find some local venues to exhibit my artwork. Maybe the neighborhood bank or coffee shops. Not a gallery showing, but just to put a few pieces out there to be seen and perhaps sold.

So far for this year of 2007, I have two S/F Art Shows upcoming: Arisia on the weekend of January 12 - 14, and Boskone, the weekend of February 16-18.

At each show I'll have three panels and perhaps a small table. If you're attending, come by and see my work. Hopefully, nothing will be stolen, and I must note that the PhilCon art show people promptly paid me $25.00 for the stolen painting as 1/3 the price of the full set. At PhilCon, I had also sold four prints, so I did sell some thing. Still not sure about the small paintings... perhaps i'll reframe them and sell them on their own.

I'll be selling most of the items which were displayed at WorldCon and PhilCon, and may be having a bit of a "fire sale"... selling small works and some jewelry and other items at greatly reduced prices -- just to sort of clean out the old pieces -- I have a serious lack of storage space -- so if you're in the mood for a bargain (meaning good art at affordable prices), come take a look.
