COMMENTS: When I was last in Ireland, MaryAnn and I did a little road trip, just tooling around, looking at the sights. On a quiet, nearly deserted road, quite unexpectedly we came across a holy well. The well was dedicated to St. Brigid, who was originally the Goddess Bride or Brigit -- one of the great goddesses. There was such a feeling of antiquity about the place and such a feeling of continuous use... Many of those who come to the well to pray for cures and miracles leave small offerings -- sometimes an image of a saint who is the patron of their plea or malady, sometimes an item touched to the ailing spot, then left at the well. Everything was covered in a soft moss and seemed to be returning to the earth and water it was dedicated to. I took a whole series of photos there and may show more of them at another time.
