COMMENTS: While walking in the Scottish countryside, this beautiful white horse appeared from absolutely nowhere to stare at me over the bushes. He reminded me of Shadowfax from Lord of the Rings, but his sudden appearance, and rather cheeky nature, were more like the Pookah of celtic folklore. The pookah -- a mischevious faerie creature -- often takes the form of a horse, appearing late at night to solitary travelers walking home. The pookah will offer the traveler a ride home and when the traveler finally gets on his back, the pookah takes off and runs all night long while the poor rider clings on for dear life. Come the dawn, the rider gets dumped off, sometimes at home, sometimes not, and the pookah trots off and disappears. The rider then is left to explain the all night staying out. The fact that the hapless rider is usually on the way home from a night at the pub may have something to do with the pookahs disappearance at dawn.
I printed this photo on plain paper, elimated some extraneous material in the foreground of the picture, enhanced the colors a bit, then printed it on a textured paper called Grey Mist.
