Water Based Inks: Ink-a-Dink-a-Do!
Having taken the collograph printing class, as described a few entries ago, I decided it would be a shame not to actually make use of my membership at the Manhattan Graphics Center . I have access to the presses, as long as there are no classes and one is available. Since I'm doing the WorldCon LA IV art show in August, I want to have a couple of collograph prints for it.
During the class, the teacher (Lisa Mackie ) supplied the inks for the printing. She used Akua inks, soy-based, water soluble, non-toxic and very vibrant. I was happy with the results on my prints, so I decided to order a basic set of colors. I needed the primaries (red, blue and yellow) and then a couple of secondaries (green, ochre, violet) and black and white. I also decided to order the transparent base, which makes nice glazes (see the sky in this picture:
I went to the Akua ink website, called, simply enough www.waterbasedinks.com and found a nice deal on some colors. I ordered them on Monday, July 3 and they arrived on Thursday, July 6th! Wild.
So now I just have to make art with them! I’ll let you know how it goes.
