COMMENTS: UPDATE: (This painting was stolen at PhilCon 2006). Another set of works from the one big blue sheet of paper and using the transparent acrylics. I had some very interesting little frames (I couldn't jpeg them, but you can see them in the photo of the table from the Boskone Art Show below) and wanted to see if I could paint something small, but complete, that would compliment the frames.

I had a sort of goddess theme in mind -- the triple goddess of the celts and ancient mythology: virgin, mother and crone -- but wanted them to be like the tiny pictures in illuminated manuscripts, very vibrant and detailed.
This painting, Early, uses the white cloak to hide the possibilities not yet revealed in a very young woman, and has a new crescent moon in a starry sky. The standing stones are one of those inexplicable things that pop into an artist's head, but they frame the figure nicely and add a little mystery.
The two that follow in the next entries, Middle and Late, are related but also individual pieces. They came out very well, I think.
