COMMENTS: On my first trip to Scotland, I had a thousand places that I wanted to see and a thousand things I wanted to do. Edinburgh Castle was high on my list. And it is high. Set on an extinct volcanic mountain, it dominates the city from every view and angle. This photo was taken from the Princes Street Gardens. The figure in the foreground is a decoration on a fountain in the gardens. The weather in Scotland was very changeable, and what had been a clear blue pleasant August sky only moments before was, at that moment, full of drama. The light silhouetted the fountain and the castle, and I took this shot at exactly the right moment. Like the photo of the grave and flowers in an Edinburgh cemetery, I printed this on paper, and eliminated a few odd distractions in the lower corners, then copied it onto a pale yellow paper to exagerate the light behind the clouds.

This photo is absolutely beautiful. A study in Black & White and it is fantastic.
