Dubhsidhe Studios takes its name from the Gaelic word for "Black," my family name, and "sidhe," the ancient people of the celtic world, sometimes called faeries, similar to the "beansidhe" or "banshee" -- the White Woman or White Faerie.

While it is not the only type of art I create, for many years I have specialized in works of symbolic nature. I combine various mythological and archetypal motifs from all over the world with personal and modern images. To express these ideas, I use a wide range of media and materials. Among these are:

The Studio's mark is a stylized representation of the crescent moon and compass (the inspiration is a carving found on a Pictish gravestone in Scotland), combining the creative (the moon) with skilled craftsmanship (the compass).

I do commissioned pieces upon request, and will work closely with a client, especially on such items as Kettubot or masks, to insure that the finished work is something that speaks to both my creativity as an artist and the needs of the customer.
